  • How can our government support improvement of the performance and/or the inequities of our K-12, higher education, or workforce education systems?

    Improve teacher quality and equip future teachers to enhance student outcomes by ensuring scholarships for high school students interested in teaching, implementing a professional development program for teachers that prioritizes student-teacher communication and mastery of content over performance, and devoting resources to conduct data-driven reviews of said program to ensure relevancy and efficacy, thus ensuring that more people are motivated to become better teachers that will manifest in student success outcomes. (Team 1)

  • Given recent claims regarding procedural compromise and corruption, both domestically and internationally, what steps can our government take to ensure the integrity of and public satisfaction with the inner workings of our republic?

    Foster transparency, critical thinking, and collaboration by increasing community involvement through frequent town halls, utilized on both a societal and federal level by citizens and politicians, and diversifying the social media approaches used by candidates, thus enabling access to reliable information and fruitful discussion for a more understanding and engaged citizenry. (Team 1)

    Utilize civic participation by strengthening civics education in the nationwide K-12 public school system, establishing state committees to oversee the implementation of such curricula, and implementing nationwide automatic voter registration by expanding the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, thus bridging the generational gap and engaging the youth in strengthening the republic. (Team 2)

  • How can our government support improvement of the performance and/or the inequities of our K-12, higher education, or workforce education systems?

    Implement implicit bias training for teachers, teacher credentials and ongoing professional development programs to reduce the student achievement and discipline gaps by adding mandatory implicit bias training to the teacher certification process and continue these trainings throughout teaching careers while tracking progress through student observation, thus leading to a more equitable treatment of students that will manifest in teachers’ perspectives and the outcomes of students. (Team 1)

  • Given recent claims regarding procedural compromise and corruption, both domestically and internationally, what steps can our government take to ensure the integrity of and public satisfaction with the inner workings of our republic?

    Restore the trust that people have both in the government and one another by limiting the extent to which biometric algorithms can be used in everyday life, raising education and awareness of digital vulnerability, and establishing a congressional committee for regulating social media & unethical technology, thus regulating the algorithms that radicalize users and the misinformation spread by Big Tech, specifically social media companies. (Team 1)

    Strengthen the relationship between the government and its constituents by implementing campaign finance reform through efforts like fund matching and reforming both the definition and parameters of lobbying through encouraging publicly traded companies to be less partisan by having campaigns primarily funded by individuals and government stipends, thus making the government and its representatives more responsive to popular views and putting power back in the hands of the people. (Team 2)

  • What can the federal government do to improve the performance and/or the inequities of our K-12, higher education, or workforce education systems?

    Foster student well-being and future success by increasing break time, improving non-curriculum aspects of schooling (after-school activities, psychologist access, etc.), and ending the relationship between school funding and standardized test scores, thus restructuring harmful funding structures while increasing the effectiveness of existing programs and establishing new ones. (Team 1)

    Aim to improve teacher performance by repurposing funding for Title 1, a federal education program that supports low income students in the U.S. and conducting research into metrics regarding teacher choice and temperance, thus improving the direct relationship between the Department of Education and school districts. (Team 2)

  • What steps can the federal government take to respond to evolving cybersecurity and/or data privacy and collection needs in today’s digital world?

    Protect minor data from corporate exploitation by banning minor-directed websites from selling collected data, requiring guardian consent for minor data collection, and reinforcing the need for understandable and concise terms and conditions, promoting accountability by funding investigations, requiring submission of sale records, and mending loopholes within existing laws, thus targeting the corporate machine while ensuring that children have a safer internet experience. (Team 1)

    Implement an opt-in framework that promotes consent and raises awareness about data collection, thus building trust between customers and corporations. (Team 2)

    Protect American cyberspace through multilateralism and create a permanent entity that develops adapting guidelines, thus defending individuals against the ever-evolving world of cyberattacks. (Team 3)

    Protect individual data and privacy rights by holding corporations accountable through legislative action, requiring cybersecurity assessments and audits, which may result in legal fines and potential federal prosecution in the case of a data breach, thus ensuring no loopholes exist for corporations to benefit off the breaching of citizens’ private data. (Team 4)

  • How can the federal government respond to the causes of and/or protect American communities from the impacts of a changing climate?

    Address climate change and gradually shift the economy towards a pollution reduced and environmentally costless system through creating educational campaigns directed towards students, establishing and enforcing the use of environmental transparency labels by corporations that produce goods, and establishing a federally incentivized recycling initiative that standardizes recycling practices nationwide, thus ensuring the average citizen becomes aware of the role corporations play in protecting the climate and allows them to make choices that best align with their own environmental views. (Team 1)

    Transition to a carbon neutral future by implementing a switch in energy sources on both a macro and micro level by increasing corporate accountability through public pressure and reinforcing the well-being and autonomy of the average American, thus ensuring all parties involved are able to make sustainable changes in their lives that help to best slow the effects of climate change. (Team 2)

    Promote sustainable farming techniques that create and maintain healthy soil by providing two-pronged grants and subsidies that allow farmers to implement greener practices without much financial backlog, allowing new farmers to get involved while ensuring existing farms get the funding they need. (Team 3)
